Skin, hair and nails

As promised, following the blog about skin, hair and nails.

Chinese medicine uses the condition of your skin, hair and nails as a diagnostic instrument. Your skin, hair and nails are a reflection of the condition of your internal organs. You could say: so inside, so outside.The condition of your nails is a reflection of your liver energy. Premature greying or hair loss,has to do with the kidney energy. Like no other organ, the skin, your largest organ, reflects the internal state of your  body.

If you lack nutrients or water, skin, hair and nails give the first signals that something is not quite right.It is not for nothing that a veterinairian can read the overall health of the animal on the fur of your dog or cat.

Your body is a great intelligent organism, that will do everything to survive.The vital organs are given priority over nails, hair and skin. You can see a poor condition of skin, hair and nails as a nutrient deficiency, because first all available nutrients go to the vital organs. Therefore, in the first place,  ahealthy diet and good intestinal health are of great importance. When the intestines are not healthy, nutrients cannot be properly absorbed and deficits occur.

What you can keep out of your diet as much as possible, are refined sugars, dairy and gluten. Those substances irritate the intestinal mucosa and might cause (lowgrade) inflammation. This ensures that nutrients are not properly absorbed and/or that substances are passed through that are not allowed through. This is what we call a leaky gut. A leaky gut is at the basis of many syndromes.

If you want to do something about the health of our skin, it is important to optimize your intestinal health  and to increase your resistance. 70% of your resistance is in your gut.

Healthy fats are important for skin, hair and nails. You can find those healty fats in:

* fatty fish, seaweed, algae

* walnuts, linseed, hempseed

* cold pressed organic olive oil, coconut oil and ghee (clarified butter).

Good proteins are also important.

Your skin, hair and nails are partly made up of proteins. You can find good proteins in:

* green vegatables and legumes

* glutenfree grains, such as quinoa and oats

* eggs of chickens that were able to walk outside.

Also stress has an impact on the condition of skin, hair and nails, so try to avoid excess stress. When your body gets in a state of stress, it needs proteine to make anti stress hormones. The body will take it first from the muscles. After that, the body will take it from the skin,hair and nails.

In addition, the body can be deficient in what we call cell salts. Cell salts are available in little tablets that supplement the deficits.

* calcium fluoratum ensures the flexibility and elasticity of nails and hair.

* Natrium chloride is good  for bloodcirculation and therefore for getting the nutrients where they are needed.

* Silicea is good for connective tissue, especially for skin, hair and nails.

In case of long term complaints, it is of couse always advisable to contact your doctor.
