It’s already March! We had a lot of sun in February and it almost seemed spring.
February 25, was the warmest day ever measured in Holland. A phenomenon
of global warming? Probably. In the early days, people got allergy symptoms in March,
but this year, it started way early. Very annoying for those people.
There are different kind of allergies.
* inhalation allergies, like pollen, pets, dust. Most of the symptoms are in the
airway tract and mucus layers.
* Food allergies, where most of the symptoms are in the digestive tract
and sometimes also in the skin, like eczema. In Chinese medicine, food
allergies pint to a weak spleen energy.
* Contact allergies. The skin can get red or itching can occur.
Hay fever or other allergies, are an immune disease. Chinese medicine says
that an allergy can develop, when the body is weak and vulnerable. So, when
the immune system is weak or when you had a tiresome and stressful period
a substance, like pollen, will give an incentive to the body. In normal circumstances,
when the body is strong, the bode will eliminate the incentive without further
due. When the body is weak, the body will start fighting and the fight is an
inflammation reaction. This reaction is considered negative and the body will
store this information. The body stores this information for a very long time and
every time, the body will see this negative reation as an attack. Every time you
get in contact the this particular substance,, the body will counterattack. That
is the reason why someone might not be bothered by, for example peanuts, for forty
years, and then suddenly is not able to eat another peanut again. The danger is,
that you will start to avoid eating peanuts and when you don’t do anything about
your immune system, the body will start to react to other substances as well.
This way, you might allergic to all kind of substances.
The way to get a grip on allergies, is to make sure your immune system is
strong before the allergy starts. You might want to do this by acupuncture,
food and movement. You also might want to try not to avoid the allergen.
Exposing yourself to the allergen bit by bit is a way to let your body get uses
to normal circcumstances. You can do this exposure, when for example the
hay fever season has not yet burst into full force.
You could also use herbs. Thyme and peppermint are great for the lung energy
and thyme also for the digestive tract. Some other tips:
* Quit smoking and use only one glas of alcohol or one cup of coffee a day,
if you absolutely have to.
* Don’t use refined sugars. Sugar will worsen the symptoms.
* You might want to use a supplement, such as Quercitine, Scutellariae,
GLA, probiotics, vitamine E. These are natural histamine inhibitors and super
anti oxidants. Scutellariae and Quercitine complex, can also be use as symptom
fighters.
* AHCC is a fast acting supplement that increases resistance.
* Try to keep moving, because condition an resistance go hand-in-hand.
Should you want to try this regimen, try it for three years in a row and you might find
that the allergy will have deminished or has disapeared. Try to estimate well in
advance, when the hay fever season starts and start this regimen a few weeks
beforehand. When the allergy is coming full force, you can only try to deminish
the symptoms.
Western medicine
When there is an allergy, there are several possibilities. In most cases, medicine
will be prescribed to counteract the effect of histamine. Histamine is an organic
compound that is involved in various physiological processes. The anti allergy
medication can be a nose spray or tablets. In case of an anaphylactic shock,
adrenalin and prednison are injected, with sometimes also an anti
histaminicum. Persons with severe allergies, might get an epipen to inject
themselves when needed.
Desentization is increasingly used. This involves exposing a patient over a
longer period to the substance to which he is allergic. This is done by
administering very small amounts of the substance. Depending on the type of
allergy, this can be done orally or via subcutaneous injections. As a result, the
immune system can induce tolereance that can reduce or resolve the allergy.
