Herbs that support your lungs

Since we have the R in the month, colds are lurking again. That’s why I thought it would be good to list some herbs that can bring you relief.

Of course prevention starts with good habits. Good habits will grant you stronger lungs. Don’t smoke, take care of a healthy and clean environment, enough movement and taking good care of your immune system.

  1. Thyme/nettle tea purifies and strengthens your lungs. You can drink this combination as a tea, but you can also steam with it.

For this, you take 1 tablespoon of thyme, 1 tablespoon of nettle, 250 ml boiled water and you can add honey. Manuka honey is my preference, because it has an antibacterial effect.

  • You can also make a tea of plantain, fennel and lemon balm. This is one of the best recipes to remove toxins that have accumulated in these organs. You can also use this tea as a compress on the chest. You take 1 tablespoon of lemon balm, 1 tablespoon of plantain, 1 tablespoon of fennel, 250 ml of boiled water and 2 tablespoons of manuka honey.
  • You can make a tea of linden and green tea. This tea helps you to prevent lungproblems, because this tea strengthens and optimizes lungfunction. It’s like a kind of vitamin bomb for your lungs and it is a nice combination to drink with your breakfast. You take 1 tablespoon of green tea and 1 tablespoon of linden, 250 ml boiled water and a tablespoon of manuka honey.

Other herbs that will help your lungs are:

  • Licorice root. Licorice root has anti-inflammatory properties and analgesic elements. It softens the mucous membranes and works expectorant and antibacterial.
  • Oregano. Oregano has a nuber of antioxidants that help stop histamine production in allergies in the respiratory system. In addition, oregano has anti-inflammatory and expectorant qualities.
  • Sage. A beverage of sage is a natural remedy for irritated lungs.  It has antibacterial and detoxifying properties, thus relieving breathing difficulties.
  • Eucalyptus. Eucalyptus can be used for congestion, cough and irritation of the nose.
  • Mint. Menthol is the active ingredient and this relaxes the soft muscles of the airways and stimulates normal breating.

Feel free to let me know how those herbs work for you!
