Summer depression

What? Summer depression? Yes, summer depression! Many people are familiar with winterdepression, but some people also are familiar with summer depression.

In Chinese medicine, winter is the most yin period, all energy goes inward and summer is the most yang period, the energy goes outward. Yang cannot exist without yin and yin cannot exist without yang. The keyword in Chinese medicine is balance. You need balance for health. Your body is 24/7 trying to remain the best possible balance.

In the summer the male yang energy reaches it’s highest point. Yang energy makes enthusiastic, exuberant, lively and energetic. This yang fire can also flare up and that will make you feel uncomfortable. It can turn to listlessness, restlessness, body insecuritiy, irritability because of to much noise or too much light, making you sleep worse. Many people also think that everything should be extra fun in the summer.Regularly there may not be enough room or space to retreat and replenish your yin energy.

Now, what can you do to replenish your yin energy?

* eat before 7 pm

* sleep in a dark and clean room

* keep your mobile phone out of your bedroom

* do not hurry

* take it ease with yang drinks, such as coffee, fizzy drinks and alcohol

* spend some time in nature every day

* avoid places or crowds of people that will overwhelm you

We hope this blog was helpful for you. If you are so inclined, you can let us know how you are coping with the summer.
