Rosemary

Rosemary is the herb-in-the-spotlight for this month.

It is an old and very well known herb all around the year and it has many uses.

You can have rosemary in your garden or on your balcony. It is hardy till -5 degrees Celsius. It is an aromatic, activating and stimulating herb. It fits the people who have a character of ‘rough bolster, white pit’.

You can use the little flowers to decorate your dishes. If you want to harvest rosemary, you can only use the tips. When you cut in the wooden part of the stem, the plant will eventually die.

Since it is an aromatic herb with a strong smell, you only need a little bit to add taste to your dishes. Rosemary can be used in soups, salads, stews and in the Dutch kitchen we like rosemay with baked potatoes. You will find a recipe under the header ‘food & drinks’.

Rosemary helps with the digestion of fats. It is a desinfecting herb, it helps to preserve food, it improves circulation and it soothes jointpain.

Rosemary oil soothes muscle strain and is effective against bacteria and fungi.

When you put rosemary in a little bag and sniff it, it will help you concentrate during for example exams and it will keep you awake during long drives.

Only use natural remedies for a continuous period of 3 weeks. Then stop for at least a week. All in moderation. Do enjoy this wonderful herb and let us know what your experiences are.
