Food for thought and for the winter

Chinese medicine does not look at vitamins, it looks at the energetic worth of the food in the body. So, some foods will cool your energetic system (you need this in the summer when the weather is hot) and some will heat your system up (you need this when it is cold outside).

Like we said before, the winter is the season of the water organs: the kidneys and the bladder. The recipe that follows, is a recipe to built up, to warm up, the energy of the kidneys. The energy of the kidneys is your basic energy.

A simple Chinese winter recipe.

Find an organic soup chicken or organic chickennecks. Put it in a pan with 1-1,5 litre water. Or, even better, in a crockpot when you have one. Put some carrots, leeks, ginger, salt, pepper, sage and sake in it. Let it simmer for a few hours. When the soup is ready, you can put some parsley on top before serving. Parsley is a good winter herb. You will now have a powerful soup to warm up your energetic sytem. Because the chicken/chickennecks is/are cooked long and slow, you will see the marrow coming out. The marrow has a healing effect on the intestinal lining as well.

Some other winter herbs, are goldenrod and lemonbalm. When you are able to get some in dried form, you can make a wonderful tea out of it.  When you peel a little piece of ginger and put some hot water over it, you will have a yummie and warming tea, which also aids digestion.

Please share your experiences with those recipes. We would love to know how it affected you. Another winter recipe will follow next month, so stay tuned!
